Abstract

The attitude of tolerance to Improve Students’ Multicultural Awarness and Character Building is very needed for students because it can stimulate good characters, such as respecting each other, living harmoniously in the social community, and increasing their social attitude. This study aims to describe the implementation of tolerance attitude to improve students’ multicultural awarness and character building through learning islamic education in SD Negeri 7 Tahunan in academic year of 2016/2017. The type of this study is descriptive qualitative. The subjects were determined by using purposive sampling. The subjects consisted of the principal, Islamic Education teacher, and students in SD Negeri 7 Tahunan Jepara. The reasercher conducted this study on August 2017. The techniques for collecting the data were observation, interview, and documentation. Then, the finding data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, data report, and verification. The data validity was proved using test of credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The result of the study shows that : (1) The implementation of tolerance among students in SDN 7 Tahunan Jepara in academic year 2016/2017 is well conducted based on perspective and mission of SDN 7 Tahunan. It is proven by the students’ attitude either inside or outside of class during teaching and learning process. They respect each other, understand the existed convergence, do not underistimate the others, even discuss and learning together. (2) The implementation of tolerance to improve students’ multicultural awarness through learning of islamic education in SD Negeri 7 Tahunan Jepara in academic year of 2016/2017 is succesful. The students are aware to the difference surrounds them. They believe that it is a part of multiculture that must be responsed by being tolerant. (3) The implementation of Tolerance to enhance Students’ Character through Learning of Islamic Education in SD Negeri 7 Tahunan Jepara in Academic Year of 2016/2017 is well achieved. Most students have possessed and applied character values such as religious, nationalism, autonomous, cooperative, having integrity, and discipline. However, in fact, there are some students still have a dispute to another, but it still can be tolerated
